Step One: The path of self-discovery

How to discover who you are and what you want to do.

Step One can be the most exciting part of this process, but also the most difficult.  Figuring out who you are and what makes you happy, especially at work, is not easy. While gaining self-awareness is not simple, it can be fun!  This part of the process can be exhilarating.  Like drinking a cold glass of water.  We’ll cover a range of topics from finding your passion, to discovering your purpose, to thinking about work differently.  And don’t worry, like I said before -- these discussions won’t just be “about” passion, they will offer you practical tips and tools that you can use right away.

Specifically, you will learn how to:
. Commit to discovering what really makes you tick and how to ensure you bring that to your work consistently
check mark Figure out who you really are and what you’re really meant to be doing.
. Avoid just taking a job because you can exercise the skill or expertise you have developed
. Find your passion -- what it is that excites you and “lights you up” and then explore how you can express your passion through your work.
. Create work that allows you to express your passion, what you feel deeply committed to, right where you are.
.

Learn how to see work as a form of self-expression, rather than a just something you do to pay the bills – and be well-paid for it!

. Discover your sense of purpose and how to work “on purpose” so that you experience a greater sense of meaning and fulfillment.
. Understand your unique work profile -- by weaving together your values, interests, attitudes and aptitudes.
. Sell your creativity – and get paid well for it
. Refocus your energy and reinvent yourself successfully -- leverage hidden skills and aptitudes that you know you have but haven’t used.

Step Two: Your value, brand, message

Educate your market about you - enroll them in your vision! Why no Employer should say “NO” to hiring you.

While the first step of this process might be the most difficult, step two is the most critical.  Why?  Because Step Two enables you to translate the work you’ve done thus far into action.  In this step you refine your message about who you are and what you bring to the marketplace.  To be successful, you must be very clear about your unique value in the marketplace, what you have to offer others.  You need to give them a reason to buy “you.”  Here’s the good news: employers will always buy good value.  You just need to figure out how to articulate it in a way that they understand.  We’ll talk about how to find and discuss your value, how to create your brand and how to create that compelling message.

So, here’s what you will learn here:
.

Identify your unique “value add” -- what it is that you can do that nobody else can do.

. Make a case for your value add and make it compelling by using the time-honored technique of story-telling.
.

Craft Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) -- understand what it is and how to use it to sell yourself.

.

Translate your fear of “selling yourself” into a desire to share your vision and talents with others -- stop selling and start educating!

. Understand what goes into creating your authentic brand -- this is not just a “branding exercise.”
.. Create a compelling message that will be remembered by everyone you meet.
. Learn the importance of body language and tone when communicating your message and how to manage both for impact.
. Become confident in expressing yourself whether it be over the phone or in person.
. Communicate powerfully so that you enroll others in your vision -- inspire others to want to hear your message.
. Master proven techniques that keep you in control of your message -- no matter what!

Step Three: Making yourself available

How to connect with those in the marketplace who are looking for you

At this point, you will have gotten to the point where you can put everything into action.  In this stage, you are going to want to find innovative ways to reach people who will be receptive to your message.  How do you do that?  Most people approach the job market in a very traditional and reactive manner.  They just respond to openings in the marketplace.  Because of the work you’ve done up to this point, you are equipped to approach the job market proactively.  In this step, you’ll learn ways to set yourself apart from the competition.  You’ll learn to…

. Create the right cover letter to grab the attention of a prospective employer
.

Learn the power of creating a pitchbook to “pitch” yourself to employers.

. Write a compelling resume that features you in the best possible light for what you want
.

"Hot-wire” your connections with internal recruiters -- learn how to bring them on your side and make them work for you.

. Learn how to make yourself irresistible to a prospective employer by “overdelivering” on the goods.
. Find out how to network internally in your company -- to find the job of your dreams while staying secure in your company
. Interview with confidence -- partner with your interviewer to help them solve their business problems.
. Connect with integrity -- learn how to make connections with people and develop real relationships, rather than hitting on people through superficial networking.
. Discover the REAL power of networking – how to go beyond the concept and really make it work for you
